The second match in Group Stage 2 was held on Saturday April 24, 2010 at the MCH Messecenter in Herning, Denmark with Mikkel Kessler defeating Carl Froch via 12-round unanimous decision in what was to this point the best match of 2010. The match was very close and could have fairly been scored for either boxer. However, Kessler ended up taking the decision: 117-111, 116-112, 115-113. The 117-111 scorecard was ridiculous, but even if it ere scored 115-113 for Kessler, the end result would largely be the same, 2 points for Kessler. The updated standings are below, and they will further be explained at the bottom:

Now in the new standings, Abraham still leads via his knockout over Jermain Taylor in Group Stage 1. The 4-way tie with 2 points keeps Froch in second place ahead of Kessler, who defeated him, and moves Kessler ahead of Ward who defeated the Dane. The first tie-breaker is head-to-head victories. The 4-way tie eliminates that, because Froch defeated Dirrell, Kessler defeated Froch, and Ward defeated Kessler. This will end up being a non-factor, because following Group Stage 3 there should not be a 4-way tie. However, for the moment that would force the tie to be broken via the second tie-breaker. That is knockout victories. No one with 2 points has any wins via knockout. That means this tie must be broken via the third tie-breaker, judges points in favor. Here, Froch has the advantage going to 2, 12-round decisions. Ward has yet to have his Group Stage 2 match. Therefore, he is far behind everyone else with 2 points. Even though Ward is fifth in these new standings, he is ideally positioned going into his June 19 match against Allan Green at the Oakland Coliseum Arena in Oakland, California. Any form of win by Ward in that match, guarantees the Californian a place in the semi-finals.
