Recap of Jason LeHoullier vs. Martinus Clay

ESPN Friday Night Fights Recap

March 16, 2007

Rockingham Park- Salem, New Hampshire

8 Round-Junior Middleweight Match:

Jason LeHoullier (20-0, 8 KO, 154 pounds) vs. Martinus Clay (12-13-2, 4 KO, 154 pounds)

LeHoullier is the local guy being put up against a guy brought in from out of the area with a bad record. Clay's record though is not as bad as his record would indicate and LeHoullier is not anywhere close to as good his record would indicate. At the end of round 5 LeHoullier is clearly ahead on points and Clay needs to at least win every remaining round to have a chance at a draw according to Teddy Atlas' score card. I think Clay may actually be in even worse shape on the cards where this fight appears destined to end up being decided. In rounds five, six, and seven LeHoullier is starting to throw harder and more consistent punches really starting to complete dominate this fight. Clay absolutely needs a KO to win this fight in round 8, but he is showing no signs of being able to deliver that. This is LeHoullier's first fight after a ten month layoff, so if his lackluster first four rounds can be attributed to ring rust I don't know. Teddy Atlas' scorecard has it 79-73, I've got it 80-72 and the judges have it... 79-74,80-72,79-73 all for LeHoullier giving him the unanimous decision victory. The crowd was very happy the hometown guy got a win and that's what this fight was designed to do.
